Tuesday, April 8, 2008 Atkins Calls for a 'New Products Czar' SEC Commissioner Paul Atkins has once again brought up the need for what he calls a "new products czar," at a speech last week. Speaking at SIFMA's 40th Annual Seminar in Orlando, Atkins stressed the need for a such an official, whose mandate is to manage new products and shepherd them through the SEC process. In a speech two months ago, Atkins explained how companies stand to benefit from having a cross-divisional products czar: "Firms with new product ideas need to know what to expect in the approval process and, if their products are going to get approval, need to have a sense of timing so that they can plan the marketing and other release-related activities."
