Tuesday, May 6, 2008 ICI Guide: 50th Anniversary Edition The ICI's 50th Annual General Membership Meeting starts Wednesday, and this being the golden anniversary of the Washington trade group's annual affair, there are some special events planned. First up on Wednesday night is a black-tie event that will be attended by ICI members and CEO types, according to an ICI spokesman. The dinner should be memorable for those who got invitations as the guest speaker is George H.W. Bush, who will be introduced by the new ICI chairman John Murphy, chairman, president and CEO of OppenheimerFunds.
Another speaker specially invited for the 50th is JPMorgan chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon, who will speak to what is sure to be a packed room on Thursday afternoon. As the program was put together almost a year ago, ICI planners had no idea what a coup it would be to have Dimon as a speaker. This is the second year for the ICI at the new venue, The Marriot Wardman Park (The event was previously held at the Hilton Towers). One thing guests should keep in mind while checking in tomorrow is that they may have to go down to go up, to their rooms that is. The lobby of the hotel is positioned over a hillside so upon walking in in what looks like floor one is really floor eight. If you find yourself bored on Wednesday night, vendors and the press have thought up a few ways you can amuse yourself. Morningstar, Citi and FRC are throwing their annual pool party at the Cue Bar. If you're looking to stay closer to the venue, InvestmentNews, Pensions & Investments and Lipper are hosting a sake and sushi party at the Sake Club, which is across the street from the hotel. One of last year's attendees told The MFWire the sushi alone was worth the trip. Thursday night the ICI-sanctioned entertainment continues with the gala, featuring a performance by The Beach Boys. Be sure to stay check The MFWire during the conference for updates on the goings on. Printed from: MFWire.com/story.asp?s=18165 Copyright 2008, InvestmentWires, Inc. All Rights Reserved |
