Fund Consultant Jumps Firms
Ben Phillips has left his post as managing director and head of strategic analysis at Jefferies Putnam Lovell and joined Casey Quirk & Associates as partner, director of research.
"This is a great opportunity. Casey Quirk has a sterling reputation," Phillips told the MFWire. He starts at the firm on August 22.
A spokesman for Putnam Lovell told the MFWire that Phillips will not be replaced and other members of the team will assume his old duties.
Phillips, who will be based in Boston, is well-known in the fund industry for the white papers he penned. Prior to his stint at Jefferies Putnam Lovell, Phillips was a managing director at
Cerulli Associates.

In his new position, Phillips will manage and expand Casey Quirk’s proprietary industry research operations, overseeing the firm’s well-respected thought leadership publications and white papers. He also will join the firm’s partners in leading consulting assignments for some of the world’s largest asset management operations. Phillips will be based in Boston.

Prior to joining Casey Quirk, Phillips served as managing director and head of strategic analysis for Jefferies Putnam Lovell, the financial services group of Jefferies & Co., a full-service investment bank. At Putnam Lovell, Phillips advised fund management executives worldwide on strategic positioning, and also authored the firm’s white papers outlining transaction activity in the asset management industry.
Before working at Putnam Lovell, Phillips was a managing director at Cerulli Associates, a firm focused on providing strategic research to global asset management firms. At Cerulli, Phillips was responsible for developing and executing the firm’s global research efforts. He also established Cerulli’s international division, which generated market intelligence on fund management marketplaces outside the United States.
Phillips holds master’s degrees in business administration from Columbia University and the London Business School, and is a summa cum laude graduate of Boston University.
