Tuesday, January 20, 2009 Manning & Napier is Hiring in Florida With Legg Mason's Bill Miller reputation mauled by 2008's bear market, look for the financial press to anoint his successor. Miller's heir may just be Manning & Napier. Hearkening back to Miller's streak of topping the S&P 500, Manning & Napier Pro-Blend Maximum Term Series has now beaten the index ten years running. The fund firm also has the advantage (for reporters) of being little known. That should make profiles all the more tempting. The first in what could be a long list of articles was written by the WSJ. This weekend, the Tampa Bay Business Journal picked up the trail, noting the fund firm's Tampa connection. It turns out that eight of the fund firm's employees -- including its client services chief -- work in St. Petersburg. Manning & Napier is headquartered in Rochester, New York. Charles Stamey, managing director of client services at Manning & Napier Advisors Inc. in St. Petersburg, told the paper that he is seeking to add two marketing people to cover Florida, a region that the fund firm has not targeted in the past. "We want to staff up to take advantage of the opportunities over the next three to five years," Stamey told the paper. Printed from: MFWire.com/story.asp?s=20496 Copyright 2009, InvestmentWires, Inc.
