WSJ Highlights Bill Miller's Retiring 'Municipal Cousin'

Fundsters interested in the rise and fall of a star muni bond fund manager should take a look at an article in Saturday's Wall Street Journal. Shefali Anand reports on the announced retirement (previously reported by MFWire: see 4/16/2009) of Oppenheimer Rochester funds founder and head manager Ronald Fielding, 60, who will be succeeded by Dan Loughran. (Loughran already has served as administrative leader of the Rochester funds for three years.) Anand talks to Fielding about his fund's rough performance in 2007 and 2008.

"It would be nice to hang around and be back on top before leaving," Fielding told the WSJ, calling himself the "municipal cousin" of star Legg Mason manager Bill Miller. "I'm proud of the long-term record [of the Rochester funds]."
