BB&T Names CIO


BB&T Asset Management named Keith F. Karlawish as president and chief investment officer. He takes over for David C. McMahon, who has been named corporate economist for the BB&T Funds Management Group.

Karlawish, 37, had been director of the firm's fixed income team and portfolio manager of the BB&T Intermediate U.S. Government Bond Fund. In the new role will oversee the asset management of the 30 BB&T Funds. BB&T Asset Management manages and administers more than $17 billion in assets.

"Keith has already been instrumental in building BB&T Asset Management's investment capabilities over the past 11 years," said Ken Miller Jr., executive vice president and BB&T's Corporate Financial Services manager. "We look forward to his dynamic leadership in his new role as we fully develop collaborative strategies with other business units to successfully provide our growing client base with disciplined and sophisticated investment strategies and superior service."
