Monday, May 10, 2010 Neuberger Celebrates a Year of Independence The folks at Neuberger Berman are celebrating the first anniversary of the firm's return to independence with a series of community service activities dubbed "Celebration with Service" during the first two weeks of May. In December 2008, a group of Neuberger managers and senior employees emerging as the winning bidder for the then-Lehman Brothers unit, beating out an earlier offer by private equity firms Bain Capital and Hellman & Friedman. The deal was completed on May 4, 2009. Fast-forward one year: More than 560 Neuberger employees and their guests across four cities are taking part in the anniversary activities, said managing director Heather Zuckerman. In New York, where the firm is headquartered, CEO George Walker joined 20 volunteers in reading and making crafts with students at the Jackie Robinson Center last Monday. Friday last week, president Joe Amato and 50 other volunteers helped paint the Harlem Children's Zone St. Nicholas Community Center. A total of more than 415 employees have taken part in the New York activities, more than 60 in Chicago, 50 in Dallas and five in the UK.
