Thursday, June 24, 2010 Did Special Language Speed Hancock's Active ETF through the SEC? The site ETFdb.com explores the first active ETF offering from John Hancock. The new John Hancock Global Balanced Fund recently received a sign-off from the SEC for its exemptive relief application, putting it in the final stretch to release. Its filing, according to the analysis, includes language sensitive to the current Washington debates that limits the fund from investing in "options contracts, futures contracts or swap agreements, except to the extent permitted by the Commission and/or its staff in the future." It is possible that the language quickened the filing process for Hancock. Other firms with active ETFs in the works include: Legg Mason, T. Rowe Price and iShares.
