Monday, October 19, 2015 A MetWest Co-Founder Joins a Fundamental Value Shop One of the co-founders of MetWest just joined a 16-year-old, high-conviction, fundamental value shop that's recently entered the mutual fund business.
An alumnus of UCLA and Harvard, Scibelli most recently served as managing director in Ares Management's business development group. He previously co-founded MetWest in 1996, leading sales, marketing and distribution. TCW bought MetWest in 2010, and Scibelli became head of institutional distribution and consultant relations for TCW before working for Ares. Scibelli describes ACR as "investment-focused first, marketing and sales second," an "undiscovered up-and-comer with lots of potential." "ACR today reminds me a little bit of MetWest in its early days," Scibelli tells MFWire. Though ACR dates back nearly 16 years (Nick Tompras founded the shop in 1999), it just launched its first mutual fund in January. ACR now has 18 people working with about $2.3 billion in AUM. "We're actually beginning the process of a soft-close for the flagship strategy by raising the minimums," Scibelli says. "We will eventually close the flagship strategy when it gets to a certain asset threshold." A Southern California native, Scibelli will continue to be based in L.A.
