Franklin's New Global Distro Chief Hunts for a Key Hire

The new global distribution chief at Franklin Templeton [profile] is on the hunt for someone to fill a key position at the San Mateo, California-based, publicly traded mutual fund shop.

On December 1 Jed Plafker (age 47), president and executive managing director of Franklin Templeton International, will become executive vice president of global advisory services, overseeing all of distribution globally (including here in the U.S.), president and chief operating officer Jenny Johnson confirmed yesterday. And Franklin spokeswoman Becky Radosevich confirms that St. Petersburg, Florida-based Tom Regner (age 65), head of U.S. retail and institutional distribution, will report to Plafker for now.

Radosevich emailed MFWire a statement regarding Regner's plans:

After more than a decade at Franklin Templeton Investments, Tom Regner, Head of US retail and institutional distribution, has announced plans to retire sometime in mid-2018. Tom will work closely with Jed Plafker, newly appointed EVP of Global Advisory Services, to ensure a smooth transition as we actively recruit to fill Tom's role over the coming months.

We thank Tom for his dedicated service and tremendous contributions in supporting our US retail and institutional business over the years.

Plafker will continue to report to Johnson and will continue to be based in San Mateo.

Regner is an alumnus of the University of Wisconsin. Prior to joining Franklin in 2005, he held leadership roles at Putnam, and before that he worked at J.H. Ellwood & Assoc.

An alumnus of both Lafayette College and University of Miami School of Law, Plafker joined Franklin in 1994 on the legal side. He switched to the distribution side in 2001.
