Janus Wooed Galbraith for CIO Job

Janus Capital offered Steve Galbraith the job of president and chief investment officer early in the summer. The chief market strategist at Morgan Stanley turned down the offer to step into the shoes left empty by the resignation of Helen Young Hayes in April. The fund firm's courtship of the Wall Street analyst was reported Thursday in the Wall Street Journal.

Neither Galbraith nor Janus officials commented on the matter for the article.

The paper cites "people familiar with the matter" as saying Janus was interested in Galbraith because of his stature. "It's a high-profile hire," the paper says an unidentified person familiar with the search told it. "It's unusual for a firm like them to go outside for a chief investment officer, but I think they realized that they were at the point where it made a lot of sense for them to do that."
