Wednesday, March 10, 2004 SEC Looks Into Dutch Annuity Underwriters Two Netherlands-based insurers said Tuesday that the SEC has asked them about market timing practices in mutual funds or variable annuities. The disclosures represent a further widening of probes that began in September when the New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer filed charges against Canary Capital. The two insurers approached by the SEC were ING and Aegon. Both insurers said that they are fully cooperating with the investigation. In the case of ING, the SEC requested information about its variable annuity insurance products, according to a Reuters report. Meanwhile, the news service reported that Aegon has responded to "general inquiries". The SEC has reportedly been looking at trading activity of funds wrapped inside variable annuity products since November.
