3 U.S. Fund Firms Win Big For Making an IMPACT

The folks at an ESG-focused publication across the pond recently lauded a trio of U.S. mutual fund firms for their impact investing work.

Earlier this month, Field Gibson Media's Environmental Finance team revealed the winners of their IMPACT Awards 2024. Judges included the London-based publication's editorial team and "an advisory panel of industry experts."

44 firms around the world won 2024 Environmental Finance IMPACT Awards. That includes a trio of asset managers in the U.S. mutual fund business.

Community Capital Management (CCM) won two IMPACT awards: "fund of the year - fixed income" and "impact initiative of the year - North America." Both awards are for the Ft. Lauderdale, Florida-based firm's flagship mutual fund, the CCM Community Impact Bond Fund.

"I am so proud of our team for winning two 2024 Environmental Finance IMPACT Awards," Alyssa Greenspan, president and CEO of CCM, writes in a LinkedIn post.

London-based Janus Henderson (whose big U.S. arm is based in Denver) won the "endowment/foundation of the year" IMPACT award. The award is specifically for Janus Henderson's Janus Henderson Foundation, which turned 30 this year.

New York City-based Nuveen (the asset management arm of TIAA) won the IMPACT "investment team of the year - asset manager" award. Stephen Liberatore, portfolio manager and head of ESG/impact - global fixed income at Nuveen, talked with the Environmental Finance team about the award.

"At Nuveen, we focus our public fixed income efforts on the areas where we can have the greatest impact," Liberatore tells the pub. "By utilising our proprietary impact framework, we focus on use of proceeds, transparency, and disclosure to help finance positive social, environmental, and sustainable outcomes. We call this 'direct and measurable' impact investing."

Environmental Financie's Rob Langston explains that the awards "aim to recognise and reward the work of impact investors, and highlight best practice and thought leadership across all asset classes and geographies."
