In Beantown, a Veteran Fundster Distro Leader Springs Into Retirement

A veteran fundster distribution chief in Massachusetts is saying goodbye to an Asian multinational asset manager.

Matthew Appelstein
Eastspring Investments
Retired Vice Chairman
Boston-based Matthew Appelstein is retiring from Eastspring Investments, MFWire has learned. Appelstein's last day was on December 31, he tells MFWire.

Eastspring spokespeople did not immediately return an email for comment.

"I'm gonna take some time off," Appelstein says. "It's been 42 years."

Appelstein previously served as CEO of Eastspring's Americas business and head of international distribution. More recently, he had vice chairman - Americas business development role.

For now, Appelstein's plans include focusing on his four grandchildren, but he says that he has "a lot of energy and passion," and is making plans for the next chapter of his life — plans which are still in the works, MFWire has learned.

Looking at his career, "I was really fortunate to work with some great people," Appelstein says, which include mentors, as well as some people he can call friends. Appelstein credits a lot of his success to the people that he worked with.

"So many people shaped and molded my career along the way," Appelstein writes on LinkedIn.

One of the big highlights of his career included his many travels during his stint at Eastspring, with the headquarters located in Singapore, he says.

"Looking back, I'm filled with gratitude. Gratitude for the people, the opportunities, the challenges, and the relationships that made this journey so meaningful. Thank you all for being part of it. I couldn't have asked for a better career — or better people to share it with," he writes.

Appelstein first joined Eastspring in 2019. Before then, he had top distribution leadership roles with RBC GAM and Old Mutual Asset Management. Earlier, he worked with Fidelity and Coopers & Lybrand. He is an alumnus of the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
