The SEC Opens Up

There's another option for those who missed out on last week's open SEC meeting and don't have time to listen to the archived webcast.

It seems that some of the commissioners are increasingly posting their statements during these meetings online.

So far, the only commissioner to post his comments online for the last meeting is Chairman William Donaldson. Donaldson has posted both his opening comments on the approved proposal to ban directed brokerage, as well as the opening and closing statements on the second proposal considered and approved -- the proposal to increase portfolio manager disclosure.

In his opening comments, Donaldson opined: "[w]hile I believe that, if taken too far, this type of disclosure has the potential to seriously intrude on the privacy of portfolio managers, I also believe that the final amendments are a fair and balanced approach to these competing policy concerns."

After the SEC's last open meeting on July 14, Commissioners Cynthia Glassman, Paul Atkins and Donaldson posted their statements online.

Donaldson leads in number of speeches posted to the website, with 22 this year. Glassman has posted eleven statements this year, and Atkins has posted four. It is unclear how many appearances each commissioner has made this year.

Thus far, Commissioners Roel Campos and Harvey Goldschmid have not posted any of their comments from open meetings or public appearances online.
