Monday, August 30, 2004 Finance Firms Roll Out Red Carpet for Republicans The Securities Industry Association, J.P. Morgan, the American Bankers Association, Financial Services Forum, and the NASD will sponsor bashes during the Republican National Convention, reports the Washington Post. The Securities Industry Association and the Bond Market Association will throw a party for Representative Michael Oxley (R, Ohio) during the Republican National Convention this week in New York. The party will be held in loftspace Penthouse 15, said SIA spokesman Dan Michaelis. ICI spokesman John Collins did not immediately return a call inquiring about ICI events during the convention. The ABA will host events for prominent senator Richard Shelby (R, Alabama) and representative Richard Baker (R, Louisiana). Shelby is chairman of the Seante Banking Committee and Baker is chairman of the House Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government. Oxley, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, and other Republicans will also be invited to attend a Monday night party at the Rainbow Room, where Frank Sinatra Jr. will be performing. The SIA is also teaming with the Savings Coalition, Merrill Lynch, Charles Schwab and Prudential Financial to hold a financial literary forum on Tuesday at recreation complex Chelsea Piers. After the forum, a reception honoring reception in Congressional "supporters of financial literacy and pro-savings and investment policies" is slated.
