Legg Mason recently promoted
Bill Golden to lead U.S. product development and management. Golden became the new head of product two weeks ago, reporting to
Joe Sullivan, head of global distribution.
In an internal memo on June 24, a copy of which was obtained by
The MFWire.com, Sullivan wrote that Golden "will be responsible for our domestic product development and management efforts for open and closed-end funds, separately managed accounts, DCIO products, and the College Savings business."
The previous occupant of the post,
Joel Sauber, left Legg Mason last year to join Prudential Investments.
Golden has worked at Legg Mason and its predecessors since 1994, occupying product and finance roles.
Back in May, Legg Mason
launched a search for a head of global product. A Legg Mason spokesperson confirmed to
The MFWire.com on Friday that Legg decided to drop the search, opting instead to have a head of U.S. product and a head of international product.
Rob Shearman is Golden's counterpart on the international side.
With Golden's appointment as head of U.S. product, the Legg Mason global distribution team is complete, according to Sullivan's memo. As
reported by
The MFWire.com in May, the team also includes
Tom Hirschmann, head of U.S. sales;
Terry Johnson, head of international sales;
Jeremy O'Shea, head of global sales support and
Matt Schiffman, head of global marketing.
