Amy Martich, a vice president at
Janus Capital Group [see profile], died Monday after
taking part in the New York City Triathlon over the weekend. She was 40.
Martich was pulled from the Hudson River unconscious during the swimming portion of the triathlon on Sunday and taken to St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital, according to news reports (
The New York Times,
Chicago Tribune,
Chicago Sun-Times,
Northwest Herald). She died early Monday.
Martich worked at Janus for seven years. Before that, she was with DWS.
"She was a hands-on mom, even from the road," Martich's Janus colleague, Michelin Sharp,
told The New York Times. "She was my rock, my mentor here."
A 64-year-old man also passed away after being pulled unconscious from the river
during the swimming portion of the triathlon, according to the Times.
