President Bush has nominated
Kathleen Casey to fill
Cynthia Glassman's Republican seat on the
SEC, reported
Reuters on Thursday. Glassman announced her resignation Monday.
Casey is currently staff director for the Senate Banking Committee, and previously served as chief of staff and legislative director for
Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL), chairman of the Senate Banking Committee. If her nomination is approved by the Senate, her 5-year term will run until June 5, 2011.
In other SEC news, the Commission announced in a Thursday press release that
Paul Berger, associate director of its Enforcement Division, will step down in June to become a litigation partner in the Washington office of law firm
Debevoise & Plimpton. Berger has spent 14 years at the Commission, during which time his cases included one against KPMG for its auditing of the AIM funds, and a case against broker-dealer Knight Securities.
