Martin Finds a New Dimension

Dimensional Fund Advisors, a leading institutional asset manager, has named David R. Martin as chief financial officer. Martin joins Dimensional from Janus Capital Group Inc., where he was executive vice president and chief financial officer.

“David’s 20 years of experience in financial management of other large money management firms will be a valuable asset to us,” said David Booth, co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Dimensional Fund Advisors. “His background across multiple channels, including international markets, will be especially beneficial as our firm continues to grow."

Martin oversaw finance & accounting, human resources, IT, real estate and procurement for Janus Capital Management, which administers mutual funds and separate accounts in retail and intermediary markets, and for Enhanced Investment Technologies (INTECH), the primary advisor to Janus’s institutional portfolio.

Previously, Martin was at Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., where he served in senior management positions across a variety of financial and business disciplines. While senior vice president and treasurer, he was responsible for all traditional treasury functions, including capital management, banking relationships, and cash and portfolio management. As senior vice president of planning and analysis, he oversaw planning, forecasting, and reporting. Most recently, he was also responsible for financial oversight of the firm's support functions (such as IT and operations) where he provided analysis and planning to determine effectiveness of the firm's multimillion-dollar marketing budget.

Earlier in his career, Martin was executive vice president and chief financial officer for First Interstate Bank of Texas.

Martin obtained his master’s of business administration degree from Carnegie Mellon University with a concentration in finance. He also has a bachelor of science degree in mathematical sciences from Stanford University.

As of February 28, 2007, Dimensional and its affiliates managed $130 billion for more than 1,500 clients in 25 countries, including corporations, federal, state and local governments, Taft-Hartley plans, universities, healthcare organizations, foundations, religious orders, and professional financial advisors. The firm and its affiliates have offices in Austin, Chicago, London, Sydney, and Vancouver, in addition to their Santa Monica headquarters.
