While activist groups are pushing mutual fund firms out of their Sudan-related investments, U.S. diplomats are trying to push the activists out of the way. The
Boston Herald reports that
Andrew Natsios, President Bush’s envoy to Sudan praised the intentions of the Save Darfur Coalition and other groups, but adds that their efforts were "more useful eight to 12 months ago" and that they could be getting in the way of progress today. The actvist group's have targeted a number of mutual fund firms in a divestment campaign for their PetroChina holdings.
