Eliot Spitzer is making headlines again, and this time politicians, fundsters and even prostitutes should all be able to rest easy. The Wall Street Journal's Alex Frangos reports that the former sheriff of Wall Street just bought an office building in Washington, D.C. for $180 million.

The $180 million deal -- made through the real-estate firm run by Spitzer's father, Bernard Spitzer -- involves 1615 L St. NW, a 13-story building that lies only one block from the site of Spitzer's shame, the Mayflower Hotel, and houses tenants like the D.C. branch of the Nixon Presidential Library. The building's previous owners bought it in 2006 for $209 million.

Spitzer drummed the purchase up as part of his free-market street cred.

"There were folks in the market, on Wall Street in particular, who tried to challenge my dedication to the market and to market forces," Spitzer told the WSJ. "I said to them repeatedly that I'm a capitalist who believes in the market, but also knows how to protect the market."
