AmEx Beats the 529 Drum

by: Tony Pennino

American Express Financial Advisors has partnered up with PTO Today magazine to offer parents College Funding Night. The night is specifically designed to answer parental concerns about the cost of university tuition.

The firm and the magazine are offering the night in schools across the country to help parents develop an investment plan for saving for college. According to American Express internal data, 70 percent of parents are concerned about whether or not they can afford to send their children to college.

Parents of middle school and elementary school students are the ones primarily being targeted by this campaign. Information will be provided about 529 plans. Information will also be provided on Coverdell Savings Accounts, UTMAs, UGMAs, Roth IRAs and financial aid opportunities.

"It is our mission to provide parent groups with the resources they need to build parental involvement in schools. When parents are involved, test scores rise, children build more self-esteem, and their overall attitude toward learning improves," explained PTO Today president and publisher Tim Sullivan.

"We're teaming with American Express to provide this service," he added. "American Express has a strong network of financial advisors that allows us to make College Funding Night available throughout the country."
