Pioneer Has Something in Common with OppFunds, Franklin

Reported by Armie Margaret Lee

Pioneer Investments earlier this year hired CJP Communications as its public relations firm.

CJP, which has offices in New York, Connecticut and London, is the same PR firm that OppenheimerFunds tapped last summer. Franklin Templeton is another CJP client in the mutual fund space.

Boston-based Pioneer hired CJP in February, according to Geoff Smith, Pioneer's director of corporate communications.

"We hired CJP Communications earlier this year to help us work primarily with the financial press," Smith wrote in an e-mail to The MFWire. "Their assignment is to help reporters reach some of our portfolio managers, bring their views on the markets to a wider audience, and generate visibility for our growing mutual fund product lineup and strong investment performance. We have limited in-house resources to do this, so the addition of an outside firm, especially one with experience in our industry, is a big help. We usually work with PR firms, so this is not new."

Smith declined to say who CJP replaced.
