Current ETN Format will Bite the Dust

News summary by MFWire's editors

ETF Daily News columnist Ron Rowland shares his three ETF predictions for this year:

  • "The current ETN format bites the dust"

  • "Unpopular ETFs will be culled"

  • "Fidelity will finally make its move"

Rowland does not give odds on his predictions (did he make any last year), but he does provide some reasons for making them for those who read the rest of article.

Even though Rowland sees exchange-traded notes as being useful in certain situations, the drawbacks of these hybrids will push new money to ETFs, he predicts.

Second on his list is the death of unpopular ETFs, narrowing the market to useful and strong ETFs.

Finally, he predicts that Fidelity [profile] "may or may not win the war" but that it "won't go down without a fight" thus could lead to big changes in the ETF industry in the process.
