Reported by Irene Park

The TCW Group [profile] is boosting its emerging market operations with the hiring of David Loevinger, a former senior coordinator for China affairs with the Treasury Department.

As TCW's new managing director and sovereign analyst in the emerging markets group, Loevinger will help develop the strategy and investment recommendations for TCW and MetWest funds in emerging countries in Asia.

Blaise Antin, head of sovereign research, said in a phone interview that TCW has been especially interested in expanding its emerging markets business in China. "China is a very complex economy," Antin said. "Someone who understands the decision-marking process and the broader landscape like David has a very big role to play."

Other Asian countries TCW is currently active in include Indonesia, Korea, India and Malaysia.

While at the Treasury, Loevinger also served as a minister counselor for financial affairs at the U.S. embassy in Beijing and deputy assistant secretary for Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
