He isn't kidding. Out of 13,700 employees, 10,000 of them are located in Philadelphia. Vanguard has been pumping up the workforce there since the late 1990s. The company's presence there also attracts other major businesses to the region, CEO of Select Greater Philadelphia, Thomas Morr, said.
Vanguard's presence helps the nonprofit Select Greater Philadelphia to sell the region to companies looking to relocate, the group's CEO, Thomas G. Morr, said.
McNabb "is passionate about this region, and is a very effective spokesperson for why it is they are here and why this is a very good place to run a business," Morr said.
Vanguard finds talent from Malvern and Penn State. Boston, with its array of great universities, would appear to be the ideal location for Vanguard, but it is highly competitive as Fidelity and Putnam scout for local talent there too.
