A Florida Shop Hires a Honcho to Cater to RIAs

Reported by Tommy Fernandez

If there is any distribution channel that an alt shop covets more, it's RIAs.

The Coral Gables, Fla.-based Collins Capital, which manages the Collins Alternative Solutions Fund, is a good example of a burgeoning alt firm reaching out to the critical RIA channel with a new hire.

The firm has just named Casey Wamsley as director.

According to the company, Wamsley will focus on "a number of initiatives", including educating clients on the benefits of alternative investments.  Wamsley, who will handle both the mutual fund and limited partnership sides of Collins Capital, will reportedly work very closely with Dorothy Weaver, the co-founder, chief executive officer and chief investment officer of the firm.

“Our goal is to build meaningful connections with our end clients by providing both investments that meet their goals as well as valuable macroeconomic insights into the global financial markets,” stated Weaver. “Casey’s extensive experience with alternatives, investment consulting, investment program analysis and manager due diligence uniquely positions us to deliver on that commitment to advisors and their clients.”

Wamsley was previously founder and president of Scottsdale, Arizona-based Phoenician Capital where he reportedly specialized in alternative investment consulting to RIA firms and institutional clients.

Before that, he had served as an institutional client development officer at Arnerich Massena, investment counselor, senior investment analyst at Miller Russell Associates, and a senior advisor at the Schwab Advisor Network of Schwab Institutional.

COLLINS CAPITAL EXPANDS TEAM WITH NEW DIRECTOR

Casey Wamsley, Investment Consulting and Manager Due Diligence Expert, Joins Firm to Further Strengthen Investment and Client Relations Team

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – July 15, 2013 - Collins Capital, an alternative investment firm whose multi-manager mutual fund uses differentiated, non-correlated strategies to offer compelling, risk-adjusted returns, has appointed Casey Wamsley as Director.

With decades of experience investing in alternatives, Collins Capital has emerged as a solutions provider, helping advisors balance their clients’ traditional equities and fixed income exposure with diversified hedge fund portfolios that do not correlate with other asset classes. In his role, Mr. Wamsley will focus on a number of initiatives, including educating clients on the benefits of alternative investments.  Mr. Wamsley, who will focus on both the mutual fund and limited partnership sides of Collins Capital, will work very closely with Dorothy Weaver, the co-founder, chief executive officer and chief investment officer of the firm.

“Our goal is to build meaningful connections with our end clients by providing both investments that meet their goals as well as valuable macroeconomic insights into the global financial markets,” said Ms. Weaver. “Casey’s extensive experience with alternatives, investment consulting, investment program analysis and manager due diligence uniquely positions us to deliver on that commitment to advisors and their clients.”

Mr. Wamsley, who has more than 18 years experience in the financial markets, has not only cultivated an expertise as an alternative investment consultant to RIA firms, but has played a key role in developing business relationships with institutional clients. His multi-faceted knowledge has given him a distinctive ability to comprehensively evaluate alternatives, assessing how they improve diversification, enhance the risk/return dynamic of a portfolio, and boost client growth and retention.

He most recently served as founder and president of Phoenician Capital, LLC, where he specialized in alternative investment consulting to RIA firms and institutional clients. He also has previously held prominent positions at investment consulting and advisory firms including Schwab Institutional.

“Collins Capital is synonymous with exceptionally high standards of transparency and communication with its managers, and we will expand our resources to ensure those same standards are met with clients, whether they are independent investment advisors, endowments or foundations,” said Mr. Wamsley. “As our clients continue to allocate more assets toward alternative investments, we are confident that there will be tremendous appeal of our fund’s rigorous, disciplined investment process that marries quantitative and qualitative analysis.”
