What impact could Vanguard's recently developed simplifying bug have on the industry?

According to Matt Hougan at IndexUniverse, these moves-- which include some fund mergers and the lowering of the bar of access to the its Admiral share class of funds, these moves translate into a "competitive assault on ETFs."

To whit, the moves make at least some Vanguard mutual funds cheaper than many ETFs.
