And, we have a new winner.

Due to a confluence of bond bearishness and equity bullishness, Pimco's [profile] Bill Gross no longer manages the world's biggest mutual fund. His Pimco Total Return Fund (PTTRX) has shrunk by $37.5 billion since the start of this year, ending October with $247.9 billion in assets, according to Bloomberg.

Meanwhile, the newswire reports that the Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund (VTSMX) ended October with $251 billion, taking the top spot.

The news caught the attention of a plethora of outlets, including CNN Money, Wall Street Journal, Reuters, MarketWatch, InvestmentNews, SFGate, and P&I.
