After Seven Hires, a Beantown Quant Has Nearly Covered the Map

A Beantown quant shop's sales force is nearly full after seven hires.

Tom Rosedale, CEO of Boston-based Newfound Research, confirms that he recently added a bunch of new sales people. Looking ahead, he expects to hire sales people for only two more spots: the West Coast and the central region.

Tim Bresnahan, Melissa Cross, Bill Dron, Mike Kaplan, Eric Monteodorisio, Sergio Ruiz, and Colin Wood all recently joined the Newfound sales team.

"Right now they're reporting to me," Rosedale tells MFWire. "We will in time hire a head of sales."

(Rosedale confirms that John Mannix, previously EVP of sales at Newfound, left before the recent sales build out.)

Detroit-based Bresnahan now serves as vice president of advisor solutions, covering the Midwest for Newfound. An alumnus of Northern Michigan University, he previously held sales posts at Motif Investing, Huntington Funds, RS Funds, Munder (now part of Victory), Fifth Third, and Comerica. He was also once an FA.

Cross now serves as VP of strategic relationships, handling key accounts for Newfound. An alumnus of American International College and Nichols College, Cross most recently worked at MassMutual's Babson Capital Management. Prior to that she worked at the MassMutual broker-dealer MML Investor Services.

Dron now serves as VP of advisor solutions, covering the Southeast for Newfound. An alumnus of Boston College, Dron previously spent 22 years at John Hancock Funds.

Boston-based Kaplan now serves as VP of advisor solutions, covering New England and upstate New York for Newfound. An alumnus of the College of New Jersey, Kaplan most recently worked with AMG Funds. Prior to that he worked at Lord Abbett.

MFWire could not immediately reach an AMG spokesperson for comment on how Kaplan's duties are being handled.

New York-based Monteodorisio now serves as external wholesaler and advisor consultant, covering New York City and the Mid-Atlantic for Newfound. An alumnus of Monmouth University, Monteodorisio most recently held a similar post at RevenueShares (which is being acquired by OpFunds). Prior to that he worked HRC Fund Associates.

Carolyn Wharton, supervising principal at RevenueShares, confirms that Monteodorisio has not yet been replaced and that an internal shifted to a hybrid role to cover the territory.

Houston-based Ruiz now serves as VP of advisor solutions, covering the Southwest for Newfound. An alumnus of University of Maryland College park, Ruiz most recently held a similar post with Calvert.

MFWire could not immediately reach a spokesperson for Calvert parent Ameritas for comment on how Ruiz's duties are being handled.

Boston-based Wood now serves as an internal wholesaler covering the West for Newfound, after two other internals joined earlier in the summer. An alumnus of the University of Washington and a US Army veteran, Wood most recently did 401(k) sales for Guardian. Prior to that he worked with F-Squared, Cole Capital, Capital Advice Investment Bank, BNY Mellon.

A spokeswoman for Guardian was not immediately able to comment on how Wood's duties are being handled.
