Company: Putnam Investments

Appointment: Anicia Mendez

Anicia Mendez was appointed as director of consultant relations on July 11. Mendez has over 20 years of industry experience, and joins from Janus Henderson where she worked under a senior consultant relations role that focused on business development.

Appointment: Jeremie Capron

Jeremie Capron was appointed managing partner and director of research on July 11. Capron has over a decade of experience as an equity research analyst around the world, and joins from CLSA Americas' industrial research in New York.

Company: Toroso Investments

Appointment: Burton Malkiel

On July 12, Burton Malkiel joined the Toroso ETF Industry Index Committee. Malkiel is the author of the best-selling book "A Random Walk Down Wall Street." The index is tracked by Toroso's ETF Industry Exposure & Financial Services ETF (TETF).

Company: Altegris

Appointment: Robert Naka, Leah Curtis, and Preeti Malik

On July 13th, Altegris hired three senior executives: Robert Naka, chief operating officer; Leah Curtis, director of marketing; and Preeti Malik, head of strategy.

At Salient Malik was vice president of strategy and worked with the management team to direct and develop strategic and growth initiatives on business investments and acquisitions.

Company: Catalyst Funds

Appointment: Anicia Mendez

On July 12, Catalyst Funds named Lawrence Lai chief risk officer and Michael Schoonover chief operating officer. In addition, there are additions to the risk management team that include a consulting arrangement with RCM Risk Advisors LLC. Ed Sweeney joins as partner at RCM Risk Advisors, Matthew Racine joins as director at RCM Risk Advisors, and Jakob Bax joins as risk analyst at RCM Risk Advisors.

Prior to Catalyst Lai was the operational head of risk management for Wedbush Securities' futures division. Schoonover has worked in operations, marketing and portfolio management with Catalyst since 2011. Sweeney held positions at O'Connor & Associates, Stafford Trading, TD Securities and Starboard Specialty Funds, LLC. Racine previously worked at Wedbush securities, and Bax as an analyst for Wedbush.

Appointment: Kara M. Stein

On July 11th, commissioner Kara M. Stein of the SEC spoke at the Healthy Market Structure Conference in Boston. She discusses the symbiosis of the capital markets.

Company: Vanguard

Appointment: Tim Buckley

On July 13th the board of directors at Vanguard elected Tim Buckley, chief investment officer, to be president and director. He will succeed Bill McNabb as CEO on January 1, 2018. McNabb, 60, will remain as chairman of the board. Greg Davis, global head of Vanguard's fixed income group, assumes the position of chief investment officer.

Company: PGIM

Appointment: Nathan Sheets

On July 17th Nathan Sheets joined PGIM fixed income as chief economist and head of global macroeconomic research.

Sheets will report to Arvind Rajan, head of global and macro at PGIM fixed income, and will oversee the global macroeconomics research team. Sheets was most recently the undersecretary of the U.S. Treasury for international affairs and has previously held positions with Citigroup and the Federal Reserve Board.

Company: Northern Trust

Appointment: Stephen N. Potter and Shundrawn A. Thomas

On July 17th, Northern Trust announced that Stephen Potter, president of Northern Trust AM, will be appointed vice chairman. Shundrawn A. Thomas, head of funds and managed accounts group, will succeed Potter as president. Both changes will take into effect on October 1.

Appointment: Brian Hourihan

On July 17 Brian Hourihan was appointed regulatory compliance officer for Northern Lights Compliance Services, a sister firm of Gemini Fund Services, LLC (Gemini) and Northern Lights Distributors, LLC (NLD).

Hourihan brings over 25 years of experience, and most recently comes from OppenheimerFunds as senior VP, deputy general counsel, and senior managing counsel, where he worked for 9 years. He has also worked at MFS Investment Management and Fidelity Investments.
