After 37 Years, a Mutual Fund Legal Eagle Leaves Willkie Farr

Reported by Neil Anderson, Managing Editor

After 37 years with Willkie Farr & Gallagher, a veteran mutual fund industry lawyer is moving on.

Today is the first day of Rose DiMartino's retirement, New York-based DiMartino confirms. DiMartino was a partner and senior counsel in Willkie Farr's asset management group, and she focused in particular on registered funds, both open-end and closed-end funds, working for mutual fund advisors (i.e. fund firms), independent trustees, and funds themselves.

Margery Neale, partner and chair of Willkie Farr's asset management group, did not immediately return a call for comment.

"My only plan is to not make any plans for the next six months," DiMartino tells MFWire.

Of her 37 years at Willkie Farr, DiMartino estimates that she spent "probably close to 35 of that" focused on mutual funds. Over the years, she spoke at industry conferences and even testified in a trial over a fallen fund firm.

"I've been lucky enough to have wonderful clients, wonderful colleagues," DiMartino says. "I've been privileged to see the change in the asset management industry from a more mom and pop approach ... to the situation we have now, much more professionalized, more more involvement from the intermediaries and distributors."

DiMartino is an alumna of Catholic University of America, Fordham University, and St. John's University School of Law.
