Senior managing director Michelle Kelly Johnston has been appointed chief financial officer (CFO) at Leawood, Kansas-based asset manager Tortoise. In this role, Johnston will be responsible for business strategy and management, corporate finance, financial planning and analysis, and financial reporting.

Johnston started at Tortoise in 2006 as managing director. Most recently, Johnston served as chief strategy officer. She helped lead many of Tortoise's strategic investments, including M&A and internal product development.

Prior to her time at Tortoise, Johnston worked as an investment banker for Goldman Sachs. She earned her BA in economics from DePauw University.
