John Hancock Execs: Few and Far Between

by: Theresa Sim

How much of the ex-John Hancock team is at Manulife? Hardly anyone, according to the Boston Globe.

Nine out of 10 members of Hancock's governing policy committee are gone, as well as 20 of 26 senior vice presidents, reports the Globe.

David D'Alessandro, chief executive officer of Hancock, was supposed to step up as chief operating officer of the combined company. Instead, D'Alessandro left with $16.5 million in severance, plus stock and pension, reports the Globe.

Among some of the top female executives, Maureen Ford Goldfarb, head of Hancock's mutual fund business, has left, as has Michelle Van Leer, Jeanne Livermore, Barbara Luddy, Jody Acford and Deborah McAneny.

James M. Benson is the top ex-Hancock executive at the new company. Benson is co-CEO of the United States with John D. DesPrez. DesPrez, from the Manulife side, heads mutual funds and annuities, while Benson heads life insurance and long-term care.
