Nationwide Financial has paired with
Ibbotson Associates to develop a set of multi-style investment portfolios for advisors. The portfolios will be a part of the insurer's
Best of America Advisory Services Program, the Nationwide's fee-based managed account platform.
The portfolios are intended to provide advisors a simple solution to clients to meet their investment objectives, said
Scott Englehart, the newly named chief operating officer for Nationwide's Advisory Services Program.
Englehart also believes that the portfolios will free managers from having to perform extensive due diligence on separate account managers and funds and allow them to spend more time focused on clients.
"Relieving financial advisors from managing day-to-day account activities allows them to dedicate more time to managing client relationships, which is a win-win for both parties," said Englehart.
The decision to expand packaged solutions was largely based on feedback from advisors who were looking for less complicated ways to deliver investment alternatives to clients, said Englehart.
The asset allocation models come in five mixes -- Conservative, Moderately Conservative, Moderate, Moderately Aggressive or Aggressive. Advisors select the appropriate portfolio for clients based on their risk tolerance and time horizon.
Each of the models comes as a mutual fund portfolio, variable annuity portfolio or what Nationwide calls a "Multi-Style Investment" portfolios or MSIPs. The MSIPs are a diversified set of portfolios made up of individual separate account research managers.
Clients need a $25,000 minimum for the mutual fund portfolio and one million for the portfolio review and solution that can combine mutual funds with separate accounts.
