The Hartford has hired Jeff Coghan as a product expert for the company's 529 college savings plan product.

The Hartford administers West Virginia's SMART529 college savings plan, which has $550 million in assets. Part of Coghan's role will be to work with West Virginian officials to increase savings in the plan, as well as general awareness and education efforts.

Coghan previously worked in product development, marketing and sales of 529 plans at Morgan Stanley and Alliance Capital.
