Charles Schwab Investment Management is throwing its that in the real estate ring with the launch of the Schwab Global Real Estate Fund.

Why now? "The global REIT space is exploding," Jeffrey Mortimer, chief investment officer of equities for CSIM, explained to the MFWire.

The fund's launch follows Schwab's January acquisition of Global Real Analytics (GRA), an applied real estate analytics and commercial real estate index.

The fund's managers will invest primarily in securities of domestic and international commercial real estate investment trusts and other similar REIT-like structures, as well as real estate operating companies. The fund's investments will be based on the proprietary global database and research model developed by GRA.

"This fund will provide diversification in our investors' portfolios," Mortimer said.
