BlackRock is staying away from hedge funds, at least for now.
Robert Doll Jr., chief investment officer for global equities, told the
Wall Street Journal's
Daisy Maxey that BlackRock's large cap team "
struggled a lot with portfolio construction" (separate login required) for a possible hedge fund and that they're instead focusing on their soon-to-launch
BlackRock Large Cap Core Plus Fund (and its 130/30 long-short strategy), unveiled early this month. (See "
BlackRock Dolls Up a New 130/30 Fund", June 6, 2007.)
