The Rocky Mountain News checked in with former Janus employees and ran two feature stories (see
here and
here) this morning on their new endeavors.
John Zimmerman, who left his post of head of Janus' institutional business last August, launched
Echelon Capital Group in September along with
Jack Swift, a former Janus managing director. The startup offers marketing support for alternative money managers.
Unlike Zimmerman and Swift, former Janus portfolio manager
Ron Speaker, who exited Janus in June after spending more than 20 years at the company, left the city and moved to the country, where he opened an investment shop named
Equus Private Wealth Management. Based in Carbondale, near Aspen, the firm specializes in bonds, targeting wealthy folks.
Speaker, the 21st person to join Janus in the mid-80s, isn't the only one with Janus roots in Carbondale. Janus founder
Tom Bailey has a ranch there. "Bailey turned me on to the Roaring Fork Valley," Speaker told
The Rocky Mountain News' James Paton.
