Fundies interested in the past, present and future of
Janus may want to have a look at
Bloomberg's Christopher Condon's in-depth piece about the Denver company. Condon explores possible reasons for the departures of 13 fund managers and executives from the firm under the regime of
Gary Black. The departures included big names such as
Scott Schoelzel,
Andrew Iseman,
David Martin,
John Bluher,
John Zimmerman,
Jack Swift and
David Corkins.
Many of the departures were not surprising to industry insiders as Black had worked to make Janus' system of investing more team-based than star-based; he also changed the company's compensation model, upsetting some fund managers. Black, who Condon interviewed for the article, pointed out that the funds that had lost their managers were still performing well in their peer groups.
