Launches of new ETFs continued at a fast clip in the month of June, but for the second time this year, there were liquidations to report.
According to
State Street Global Advisors' monthly ETF snapshot, 22 new ETFs were dropped onto the market in June, down one from May's 23. The number of launches has accelerated over the last six-month period however, with five launches in January, 10 in February, 10 in March and 16 in April.
Seven ETFs were liquidated in the month of June. Those seven were
XShares Advisors' Adelante Shares, which had a combined $17 million in assets. The last time there was a ETF liquidation was in February when
Claymore liquidated 11 portfolios.
