It's been five years since the fund scandal rocked the industry,
and in his
Sunday column, MarketWatch's Chuck Jaffe looked into the
the impact of the events of 2003. He noted that while the payback to investors is small, the impact is nonetheless huge. "Clearly, investors should be more focused on performance than on back-room shenanigans, but the real legacy of the small-dollar, big-headline scandal of 2003 is that it probably saved the industry from getting into much worse, bigger problems by now," he wrote.
