iShares -- which ranks as of one of the largest transactions in the asset management industry's history -- would mean for the ETF business and investors in iShares ETFs.
Spence points to speculation that iShares' new owners could hike fees to pay off debt.
Meanwhile, the iShares deal might draw more large financial institutions into the ETF arena, or it could "indicate further consolidation in the industry," Spence writes.
