The SEC is looking at possibly shortening money market funds' maturity limits to protect investors, Reuters reports, citing an anonymous source "familiar with the agency's thinking."

Regulators may require more disclosure regarding the funds' assets, according to the source.

The commission is slated to hold a meeting on Wednesday to consider proposals pertaining to money fund rules.
