The ETF industry just passed the $1 trillion milestone, according to a report from
BlackRock, now the largest ETF provider after the absorption of
iShares.
With an all-time high of $1.032 trillion, the figure represents a year-over-year growth of nearly $300 billion, between December 2008 and 2009. The data was published in the latest
ETF Landscape Year End 2009 report.
U.S. ETF assets accounted for $706 billion. European assets made up $224 billion, while the final $70 billion came from other markets.
The number of exchange traded funds also increased in 2009, rising from 1,591 to 1,939 worldwide.
