Dreyfus Corporation and
Putnam Investments
garnered A's from
Corporate Insight, which took a look at fund firms' efforts in educating investors on the Roth IRA Conversion law.
The change allows investors to roll assets into a Roth IRA regardless of age, marital status or age bracket.
Of the 18 fund firms Corporate Insight tracks, 11 offered Roth conversion materials , according to senior analyst Lauren Wistrom.
"We were surprised to find that most firms waited until the law had already been passed to begin promoting Roth conversions," Wistrom wrote in e-mailed comments to
The MFWire. "It may have been helpful for investors to plan their conversions before the tax year was complete."
"We were also pleasantly surprised to find that four firms put forth a large effort to promote conversion tools – and two firms developed these calculators specifically in light of the law change," she added.
Corporate Insight praised Dreyfus for having an entire sitelet devoted to Roth IRA conversion information, promoting regulation changes through an image on its homepage and providing a calculator to show the advantages of opening a Roth IRA over time.
As for Putnam, Corporate Insight noted its standalone page highlighting conversion opportunities and calculator enabling users to see a percentage breakdown of their assets by tax liability. Like Dreyfus, Putnam also promoted regulation changes through an image on its homepage.
