Ex-Janus Fund Manager is Back in the News

News summary by MFWire's editors

Remember Blaine Rollins, the one-time manager of the Janus Fund and Janus Triton Fund. Rollins, who left Janus in 2006, is in the news these days because the firm he works for, Mueller Capital Management is accused of running a Ponzi scheme. There is no indication that Rollins knew about the scheme, according to a Dow Jones Newswires article.

Last Friday, Colorado Securities Commissioner Fred Joseph alleged that Mueller was operating a Ponzi scheme.

The Dow Jones article states that there is currently no indication that Rollins was aware of the scheme. Before attempting to jump from a building, company founder Sean Mueller wrote a suicide note, saying:

"Nobody...had any idea what was happening. Nobody here or either Bill Saetveit or Bill Schaefer...Nobody except myself had any access to the statements... To the best of my knowledge, they didn't know about the falsified documents."

Reportedly, many Colorado athletes, doctors and businessmen were taken for $100 to $150 million by the scheme.

Rollins, who is a a board member for the Lance Armstrong Foundation, worked at Janus for 16 years before retiring in 2006. During his time, he also helped manage the Janus Balanced Fund and Janus Equity Income Fund. He then joined Mueller Capital Management in Greenwood Village, Colorado.
