All eyes are on Washington today as the SEC will tackle 12b-1 fees at an open meeting at 10 a.m. (click
here to view the agenda). The commission is expected to come out with a proposal that was outlined by
The Wall Street Journal in a
July 6 article.
Buddy Donahue, the SEC's director of investment management,
was quoted in the article as saying that one scenario the commission was studying involves treating 12b-1 fees north of 0.25 percent of assets as a load that is paid over time.
Citing anonymous sources,
InvestmentNews reported yesterday that the proposal is being dubbed "12b-2."
