Fidelity will no longer put up a second data center
in Garner, North Carolina and instead will continue to invest in its data center in Research Triangle Park,
The News Observer reports.
Fidelity was considering Garner as one of the sites for the second data center and economic development officials in Wake County had code-named the project "F."
Friday last week, Fidelity informed notified Garner officials of its decision not to build the second data center.
"It proves that nothing is guaranteed," Garner Mayor Ronnie Williams was quoted as saying. "Just because you offer incentives doesn't mean you're going to land a big fish."
Fidelity spokeswoman Jenny Engle told the paper: "We think we can most effectively meet the demand for those types of services from our location in the RTP," adding that Fidelity has already made a significant investment in the area "and will continue to invest there."
Whether the future investment will result in additional jobs isn't clear.
